It has always been important to keep my inner artist burning at different opportunities in my life as a student, mother and teacher. As a mature artist I have nurtured my intention and have given myself time to make Art.

I am inspired by Art that connects people to their emotions. Words that resonate with me are decision-making, placement, brush-stroke, gesture, stillness, movement, vigour and rest.

Sometimes I work over a few pieces or themes in a time period, pacing myself as to when to be spontaneous and when to stop and think or pause. This pause may be over a short time or it may take afresh ‘re-look” weeks or months later. Always with the intention to keep the work alive.

Art keeps me in touch with thoughts and visual connections that help me define my interpretation of life. Subjects that allow me to explore a resonance with colour nuances are nature studies, landscapes or people in my family. The media I employ depends on how I feel about the subject; watercolour, gouache and acrylic lending themselves to quicker studies with more gesture and oil paint for a slower approach using glazing and layers.

My natural curiosity about the visual world holds meaning and tells its own story. Attempting each piece as a story unfolding is my way of connecting the human experience and sharing with the viewer.
